I'm a AG equipment tech in western Canada so my job has me on the road and i work on concrete. I find it a struggle to find a boot that can last a whole yr without something substantial wearing down in a boot. My 6" Buck Puritans are the 1st boot i have that after 7 months are showing absolute minimal signs of wear, the only thing eaering is the thin cloth liner attached to the insole is partially seperating which is quite normal in boots, and i love how i can still point my toe and pull my coveralls over the boot so i dont have to take off my boots to put my coveralls on. If they last over a yr and look great I will give a short updated review with a picture of condition.
Heres some examples of poor boot quality. Redwings are over $400 (6years ago) and were the toughest of all other brands and the classic boot took so long to lace up and i cant slip them through my coveralls, so decent boots but pricey. Blundstones at 11 months I had my pinky toe protruding out of the boot, the side simply busted out (everyone told me they were great though...). Terra slip ons had the liner that went up the boot from the heel up, simply rip and scrunch right down the boot when putting my feet in them at 6 months, now i cannot put them cause theres no space for my foot to enter in. Royer boots had tread seperating at 10 months of use. Timberland boots honestly just started sagging out, with tread breaking off and broke laces at the 10 month stage.
I have Keen shoes that i use way less, not every word day wear like my work boots and I have to glue the tread back on now for a 2nd time, shoes would have idk 5 months of everyday use if I averaged them.
At home I am known by friends as being very critical with the quality of boots and shoes (not with style) because i think the cost of boots and shoes compared to the length of life is absolute garbage. Im less than 180lbs so i am not a heavy guy wearing out these boots either. I can hardly find a boot or shoe that can go a yr and does not have to be glued somewhere or have the leather crack out where it flexes (yes I use leather care products). In the last 10 yrs the only other boot I've had last over 5yrs and be in good shape is a Meindl hiking/hunting boot that i use for outdoor use, which is rare, therefore I really like those boots. (Nothing else thus far has lasted over a yr and looked decent).
I am a definite 8.5 size and i went to a 9 with 2 insoles and my boots were no doubt to big, i bought a size 8 and they fit good Just a heads up to those who are buying. (Bucks Puritans).
Seeing how the leather is folded over the bottom of the boot and that bottom tread is entirely glued, made in Canada, with a very fair price, and i can slip my coveralls over my boots easily, in great shape at the 7 month mark and if this quality of build continues this is most likely the last brand of boot i'll buy. 1st time in 8 yrs that I actually like my work boots.
